I'd rather be at this soundcheck than the performance, after all it is more relevant with the workers there. Back then, even though it seems to be stronger now, there were people who thought certain jobs were below them and so insulted their dignity if they were offered them as options at the job centre for example or friends tried to get them into their place of work if their was a vacancy which in this case meant they got the job. I was raised that no job was below me and if I thought I could do it I should apply for it. I have worked as a glass collector, barman, cellar man, produce department stocker at a supermarket so started at 5am, call centre operator, telesales though it was for a sales channel so the customers called us, an auxiliary nurse so did the scut work, on a building site as a GDB, kitchen scrubber. I worked as a stocker and glass collector while studying to retake my English GCSEs and studying for my science A-Levels. I never felt shame about any of the jobs I did, they were all a means to an ends.
